Her name is Kailey. She is a freshman in high school. Long, brown hair that rested on her lower back. The new girl was from Tennessee. She was in the last month of school, with a boyfriend she had since the second day of school. She was a girl who all the boys thought was gorgeous. Her boyfriend was tall, wore boots all the time, and was a “redneck” as they call them. He meant everything to her. He met her family, they hung out every day after school, and they always got out of class to see each other. You could tell they liked each other a whole bunch, but there was only one tiny problem. He liked attention from girls.
Kailey was a respectful girlfriend, very trustworthy, and she loved hanging around her girl friends. Her boyfriend, Kyle on the other hand was somewhat like her but he had his ups and downs. As it got later on in the school year, you could tell they weren’t holding hands as much in the hall way, they wouldn’t hug quite as long as they use to, and they wouldn’t get out of class that much to see each other. Kailey’s best friend, Megan knew everything about Kailey and Kyle’s relationship, because she’s her best friend. Who’s best friend wouldn’t know everything? One day, Megan asked Kailey what was going on between the two of them.
Kailey explained to Megan that she had read some stuff on Kyle’s phone the other night while he was in the store getting something to drink. Kailey said she had seen text messages from a girl named Lauren. She knew the Lauren girl but she wasn’t friends with her. Kailey told Megan that the messages said things like, “Hey babe, what are you doing this weekend?” and “Meet me after school Friday and I’ll give you something sweet.” When Kailey told Megan what the text messages had said, Megan flipped. She was explaining to Kailey about how she should break up with Kyle and how he isn’t worth her time. Kailey wasn’t listening to her. She didn’t want to believe that all of this was true.
The next day was Friday. Kailey and Megan were at school, when Megan came up with an idea. She remembered that one of the text messages sent to Kyle said to meet Lauren after school on Friday. They decided to find each other after school and go outside to see if they could see Kyle anywhere. Kailey sent Kyle a text message right before the bell ran saying, “Hey, I have to take a test after school today so you don’t have to wait for me after school.” Kyle said, “Ok.” The bell rang. Megan and Kailey rushed outside and hid around the corner of the building. Kyle walked out of the building and stood on the sidewalk. A minute later, Lauren came up to him and gave him a huge hug and a kiss. Kailey completely lost her temper.
She came around the corner so fast there seemed like there was smoke coming out from her shoes. She pushed Lauren out of the way and yanked her pretty, heart necklace that Kyle had given to her off her neck and slung it at him. She yelled at him and told him it was over. Megan came up to Kailey and held her back from Lauren because she was about to punch her. Lauren stood there in fear. Once Kailey cooled off, her and Megan went to Megan’s car. They sat there for a minute and talked about it. Megan was telling her that Kyle wasn’t worth her time and she did the right thing. Kailey took in everything she said and took a deep breath. Megan decided to invite Kailey over for a sleepover.
That night, Kailey and Megan were sitting in Megan’s room. Kailey was more mad than upset about the whole Kyle situation. She wanted revenge. Her and Megan came up with the idea to drive to Kyle’s house and go and mess all of his stuff up. It was around ten o’clock on Friday night and her and Megan snuck into Kyle’s back door. Kailey knew he always left that door unlocked. They immediately started destroying everything in his house. They threw papers everywhere and wrote the word, “CHEATER!” on all of his mirrors in his house with apple red lipstick. They ruined almost everything in his house. Megan’s car was on the opposite side of the street. It was pitch black outside and her car was an old, beat up, little black car. It wasn’t noticeable at all. After ten minutes of completely destroying everything Kyle owned, they saw headlights through his room window. It was Kyle’s big, black, jacked up truck. It was covered in mud, as usual. Everyone thought he was so cool at school for driving such a nice truck. You could definitely tell he was a redneck with his sticker on the back of his truck that said, “GIT-R-DONE.” The truck slowly turned into Kyle’s drive way and Megan and Kailey took off running to Megan’s car. No one saw them, so they quickly got into Megan’s car as Megan grabbed the binoculars and was looking through her car window. She gasped and dropped the binoculars. She yelled, “KAILEY! Lauren is with him AND she’s driving the truck!” Kailey snatched the binoculars right out of Megan’s hand and said, “He never let me drive his truck!” She then let out a few curse words and punched the dashboard. She continued looking at them as Lauren stepped out of the driver’s side of the truck and Kyle held her hand as they were walking into his house.
Kailey continued looking in the binoculars at them as he opened the door to his house. She saw them stand still for a second and then he turned around. He then yelled, “KAILEY!!!!!!!!” Megan started the car and took off, slinging rocks everywhere as they drove away. Kailey was looking back as they were driving off at Kyle running down his driveway thinking he could catch them. He got smaller and smaller the farther they got. Megan then said, “You ok?” For once, Kailey smiled and said, “I’m perfectly fine!” Megan was so relieved that her best friend was finally happy. They got to Megan’s house and walked into her room. They were ready to finally relax from the long day.
They were sitting on Megan’s bedroom floor talking and laughing and having a good time. Kailey pulled her purse over to where they were sitting and pulled out a picture of Kyle and her the night of homecoming. She said, “Those old redneck heartbreakers really been a lie. Watch me strike a match on all my wasted time. As far as I’m concerned, he’s just another picture to burn.” Megan smiled and handed Kailey a match…..
